Care First Animal Hospital At Oberlin

I’ve been going to Oberlin Animal Hospital since I was a child, and I still remember when the practice was located in that tiny, cramped basement clinic on Oberlin Road. It’s been beautiful to watch what started as a small local practice grow into one of Raleigh’s larger and most modern animal hospitals. One thing that can sometimes get lost when a small business grows is that personal, small-business mentality. I can confidently say that hasn’t happened here. The staff at Care First on Oberlin Road are just as kind, compassionate, and welcoming as I remember them being 20+ years ago. Everyone is incredibly patient and caring, and I genuinely enjoy bringing my pets here. The facility itself is now incredibly modern and high-tech, especially after the renovation. My only constructive criticism is that I wish there had been some consideration for pets who cannot comfortably be around other animals or a lot of people. A drive-up option with a separate entrance would make the process much easier for those pets and their owners. I have an English Mastiff, Mr. Rockefeller, who is an exceptionally large dog, so I’ve learned that some things, like cones and ear coverings, may need to be purchased separately because the standard sizes (even an XL) simply aren’t made for a dog his size! But what matters most to me is how he feels when he leaves. Mr. Rockefeller is always happy to come home and, most importantly, he never leaves the hospital fearful, stressed, or acting as though he has been mistreated. That speaks volumes about the people caring for him. After all these years, I’m grateful to still have a veterinary hospital I trust.

We started bringing our mini-schnauzer to Dr. Wages at Cares First after struggling with post-operative issues. Dr. Wages and her team were gracious and put us at ease. More importantly, they listened to our concerns - told us which ones were really worrying, and others that were naturally and would pass. In the end, Dr. Wages helped us get our senior pup on track to the point that he’s now getting back to his old self and keeping us on our toes.

Best vet ever!! My two dogs love going there and they treat me and them like family. I would not trust them with anybody else!

No matter what my pets need, the entire staff are there to help....from attentive Bianca at the front desk to the amazing Dr. Page Wages and Dr. Joe Gordon. You can be sure you are getting the best the triangle area has to offer for veterinary care.
